1977 Lamborghini LP400 Countach "Periscopio"
Sold
Chassis No. 1120298
The Lamborghini Countach LP400 "Periscopio" is one of the most iconic supercars ever produced, representing Marcello Gandini's groundbreaking wedge-shaped design in its purest form. Chassis number 1120298 is the 149th of just 150 LP400 "Periscopio" examples built and one of the final, most refined cars of the original production series. Finished from new in striking Luci del Bosco (Dark Brown Metallic) over Champagne leather, it retains its matching-numbers V12 engine and has covered just over 20,000 kilometers (approximately 12,500 miles) from new.
Delivered to Monaco Motors in Monte Carlo in December 1977, the Countach was first sold to Robert Katz of New Jersey before passing through a small number of discerning owners. In 2014, noted Lamborghini specialist Gary Bobileff completed a comprehensive bare-tub, nut-and-bolt restoration totaling more than $226,000, returning the car to its original factory color combination. Since then, it has earned numerous concours accolades, including Runner-Up Best of Marque at Concorso Italiano, First in Class at both the La Jolla Concours and San Marino Motor Classic, Best in Class at the Niello Serrano Concours, and was featured at The Quail's "Evolution of the Supercar" display. Accompanying the car are its factory books, tools, four-piece fitted luggage set, restoration documentation, and concours awards.
More recently, the Countach has benefited from over $57,000 in additional servicing by Dugan Enterprises, including a comprehensive engine-out service, clutch rebuild, steering rack overhaul, carburetor tuning, engine bay detailing, air conditioning service, and extensive mechanical sorting to ensure proper operation. The result is one of the finest and most meticulously prepared LP400 "Periscopio" Countachs in existence—a matching-numbers example with exceptional provenance, concours pedigree, and mechanical excellence that is equally suited for the world's premier collections, concours events, or spirited road use.
